چکیده

There are numerous methods of post-processing that make use of iterative techniques. Many of these schemes have been demonstrated to be very effective at removing artifacts from compressed video, producing better and better image estimates at each iteration. However, this artifact removal comes at the cost of a large computational burden. This paper introduces two methods for iterative post-processing of compressed video in an efficient manner. One of these methods is applicable to one particular maximum a posteriori scheme. The other method has direct application to other, more general, iterative post-processing schemes that make use of a convex constraint set, which is the set of all images which will recompress to yield the originally-received data. The combination of these two methods produces a post-processing algorithm which has the advantage of many iterative schemes (excellent visual results), while requiring a relatively low amount of computational effort to achieve these results.

Reducing the Computational Complexity of a Map Post-Processing Algorithm for Video Sequences

Maximum a posteriori (MAP) filtering using the HuberMarkov random field (HMRF) image model has been shown in the past to be an effective method of reducing compression artifacts in images [2]. Unfortunately, this MAP formulation requires iterative techniques for the solution of a constrained optimization problem. In the past, these iterative techniques have been computationally intensive, makin...

An asymmetric post-processing for correspondence problem

This paper presents a novel approach that performs post-processing for stereo matching. We improve the performance of stereo matching by performing consistency check and adaptive filtering in an iterative filtering scheme. The consistency check is only done with asymmetric information so that very few additional computational loads are necessary. The information in the valid pixels is propagate...

New adaptive interpolation schemes for efficient meshbased motion estimation

Motion estimation and compensation is an essential part of existing video coding systems. The mesh-based motion estimation (MME) produces smoother motion field, better subjective quality (free from blocking artifacts), and higher peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) in many cases, especially at low bitrate video communications, compared to the conventional block matching algorithm (BMA). Howev...

Extending SAR Image Despckling methods for ViSAR Denoising

Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) is widely used in different weather conditions for various applications such as mapping, remote sensing, urban, civil and military monitoring. Recently, a new radar sensor called Video SAR (ViSAR) has been developed to capture sequential frames from moving objects for environmental monitoring applications. Same as SAR images, the major problem of ViSAR is the pres...

Reducing the Complexity of Iterative Post-processing of Video

We propose a method of reducing the computational complexity of iterative video post-processing algorithms that make use of the convex quantization constraint set. Rather than constraining all DCT coefficients in a block, this method constrains only a subset of a block’s DCT coefficients, and hence eliminates the need to evaluate all coefficients.
